Took a trip down to Austin. Went fishin’ at Windy
point on Lake Travis but didn’t catch anything. Grabbed
some lunch at Rudy’s on 620. Headed down to Spicewood
and played Willie’s course. Headed south again to Dripping
Springs. Found a pitch and Putt four miles south of town
and played nine holes. Went by Woodcreek but too busy for
the time I had left so I got a scorecard and headed to Seguin.
Spent the night in Seguin and woke up to a howling north
wind. Played at Chaparral CC with two older gentleman. This
course is set up for a south wind so it was very difficult
not to mention I had the pullsies. I tried to find Lee’s
par three but missed it somehow. I did find Texas State course
but again, to busy for the time I had. Also, stopped in at
Cabella’s, The Outdoor Warehouse and Academy, so I
haven’t stopped drooling yet. Bought a Texas Course
book from 1987. It only listed 680 courses and you would
not believe all the changes since then. Think I’ll
head west while there is a break in the action. Will report
back on findings. - Ramblin’on, Tank

Information overload! The teeniny
portion of my brain that still functions can’t handle
this much input at once. Went down to get one dead course
and found four. Played one that may die! Found/played
two courses you don’t have listed. Found the nudie
spots. Saw the gulf, found another Tankersley Lake. Came
back through Sugarland area which has way too many people
now. Only five newbie’s played! Forgot it was the shortest
day of the year! Talked to a bunch of people. Got some info
on new Lake Jackson course. Will have to return and play
it and Freeport. Got some stories and stuff to write about.
More later!

We lost a fellow golfer this week in a tragic car accident.
Donnie Van Meter was only 41 years old and had given much
to the community of Robinson. He had coached the Little League
10 year old all-stars and won the district nine title. He
coached Little Dribblers basketball and select basketball.
His oldest daughter (11) was enrolled in summer golf programs.
Donnie will be missed. Take this time to remind yourself
that life is not only short but precious. Enjoy the privilege
of getting to whack a ball around a course and the camaraderie
of friends. Enjoy the competition, the weather, the exercise
and the challenges that are waiting for you. Here’s
to you Donnie and when my ticket is finally punched ----
reserve us a tee time at that big 18 in the sky!

Hey, hey, great! Well I made it back from SPI. Only played
3 courses, 2 newbys. Brother in law just not fast enough!
Got into another newspaper Stattuck Okla. Will send you photocopy!
Where did all this rain come from? At Seminole it was 60 degrees
and wet. Bunch of stuff going on. Meet the coaches for volleyball
is Wednesday. Daughter is now a 7th grader. How the hell did
that happen? Enuff for now, more later gator! - Tank

430 courses done (and counting) more later, gotta go to South
Padre and do family thing!

– Restless Golfer
If you love the great state of Texas, and have any sort of
connection to the game of golf, then Tank is your man.
Steve “Tank” Tankersley--equal parts golfer,
storyteller and traveler—has set out on a mission to
play EVERY golf course in the Lone Star State.
A latter day Don Quixote (albeit a little heavier, with grayer
hair and not as firm a grasp of the Spanish language), Tank’s
impossible dream has begun in earnest.
With more than 400 golf courses already notched on his belt,
Tank’s record-breaking journey will see him play every
single golf course from Orange to El Paso, and Dalhart to
Brownsville.
