Cottonwood Creek Golf Course
The golf         Joe Finger teamed with Ken Dye to create Cottonwood Creek, which turned out to be one of Finger’s last design projects. This links-style course features a good amount of cottonwood trees lining the fairways, and the appropriately named Cottonwood Creek meanders through the layout. Water is in play on over half the holes, and the Bermuda greens are generally elevated.

Two holes stand out on the front nine. The first is No. 5, a 435-yard par 4 that doglegs left between two creeks. The second is the 554-yard No. 7, which has the tightest fairway on the course.

The back nine starts out tough with another long doglegging par 4 with water backing the green. The next one to watch for is the double dogleg No. 15, which snakes 541 yards and has a green protected by water. Big, perfect drives force the consideration of cutting over the lake to reach the green in two.

And you’ll need a solid drive on No. 16, a 453-yard par 4. Water is in play on the approach and off the tee.

Other notes: Cottonwood also has a 9-hole facility that serves as a nice little short-game practice area. The holes range from 37 to 90 yards, and the green fee is $5 for adults.
