The golf
As the name implies, this is a state-maintained and operated 9-hole golf course that dates back to 1938, when it was carved out of a 263-acre park. While definitely not a championship resort-style course, this might be one of the best values for golf anywhere in the state, offering all-day access for under $10.
The course is very well maintained, with a design that features wide-open fairways, no bunkers, and water hazards on a few holes. Even though the fairways offer generous landing areas, there are a few strategically placed trees get in the way.
Clear Fork Creek comes into play on the first and last holes. And No. 3 is the most challenging–a long par 4 that plays downhill off the tee, then back uphill into a green surrounded by trees. Most of the par 4s are short, playing under 350 yards, including the 295-yard No. 5.
Other notes: While there is not a formal driving range, there is an area where you can hit a few balls to warm up (provided that you retrieve them when you’re done). |
